We’ve tried some of the best white water rafting spots from Perak to Sabah, and trust us, it’s one of the most fun ways to see Malaysia’s wild side.

1. Kampar River, Gopeng

This is the most popular spot for water rafting in Gopeng and for good reason. The Kampar River has around 14 rapids, ranging from Grade I to III. That means it’s perfect for first-timers but still exciting enough to keep things wild.

You’ll float past rainforest, huge boulders, and maybe even spot a monkey or two. Plus, it’s super close to Ipoh, so it’s an easy day trip.

2. Ulu Slim River, Perak

This place is another super fun spot for water rafting Perak offers. Ulu Slim River is ideal for those wanting a more off-the-beaten-path vibe. In addition to the rafting, you can also visit some Orang Asli villages.

The rapids in Ulu Slim are mostly Grade II with one big Grade III rapid. So it’s suitable for beginners and intermediate adventurers.

3. Sungai Sedim, Kulim

Sungai Sedim brings some serious white water adventure. With rapids up to Grade VI, this one’s for hardcore adrenaline junkies. There are strong surges and lots of splashing involved.

You can also go river rubbing or explore Cave Sireh. And don’t miss the infamous Canopy Walk in the beautiful Sedim Rainforest, which also happens to be the world’s longest one.

4. Sungai Selangor, Kuala Kubu Bharu

If you’re in KL and want something quick and epic, you need to head to Kuala Kubu Bharu water rafting at Sungai Selangor. It’s under two hours away but feels like a different world.

Water rafting KKB is usually around Grade IV, which is thrilling but manageable with proper guidance. We went with a group of friends and laughed non-stop, especially when one of us fell out (don’t worry, it was totally safe!).

5. Telom River, Cameron Highlands

The Telom River has rapids ranging up to Grade IV or V. It takes a while, as this river is quite challenging.

On the way, there are, of course, spectacular views, and you can also visit one of the Orang Asli villages.

It’s also a fun way to explore Cameron Highlands beyond the usual tea plantations and strawberries.

6. Endau Rompin, Johor

Endau Rompin may be a bit of a drive from KL, so it’s better suited for a longer trip, but it is so worth it!

The rainforest is thick, the water is clear, and the rapids are exciting without being overwhelming, with grades ranging from I to III. 

You also get to explore the wild Endau Rainforest, home to endangered animals like the Malaya Tiger and the Sumatran Rhinoceros.

8. Padas River, Sabah

Now this one’s legendary. Padas white water rafting is one of the most famous in Southeast Asia, and after doing it, we totally get the hype.

The rapids, a total of 7, go up from Grades II to IV. In the rainy season, it can go up to Grade V!

To even get there, you need to take a train through the jungle. That’s how remote and amazing it is. It’s wild, beautiful, and totally unforgettable.

9. Kadamaian River, Sabah

Not into intense rapids? Kadamaian is perfect if you’re looking for some family friendly adventure. It’s located near Mount Kinabalu and offers a much gentler rafting ride with rapids ranging from Grade I to II.

This one’s all about the views and the chill. We love this rafting route, especially because along the way, you get to catch a glimpse of Mount Kinabalu and Mount Nungkok!

Do you need experience for white water rafting?

Generally no. Many rivers are beginner-friendly. Just listen to your guide, wear your gear properly, and be ready to paddle and get wet.

However, some rivers are more challenging than others. And it is better to get used to the experience with rapids below Grade IV, before moving on to the more thrilling ones.
